Event Description

Inventors were very secretive during the 18th century. They were worried that their ideas would be stolen before they could be patented, and someone else would be able to pass their invention off as their own.

James Watt was one such inventor. He was so afraid of spies copying his inventions that he worked in a secret workshop bought for him by his business partner John Roebuck, in a cottage beside Kinneil House
