Event Description

Scotland is a nation made of sandstone, slate, marble, gneiss, schist, granite and all other types of stone. This rich variety has built our heritage, from the red sandstone of Melrose Abbey, to the schist of Iona.

Our conservation scientists are one of many experts within Historic Environment Scotland who help to conserve our stone structures for future generations, using cutting edge technology.

Get hands on with part of the scientist's toolkit. Use a microscope to explore stone samples around the Engine Shed and take inspiration from what you see to create your own Microscopic Masterpiece using ink and water.

Suitable for ages 7+
